Moggy is not doing well. Yesterday he was diagnosed with Chronic Renal Failure. Court’s written about it in his blog. This morning was the first time (daily henceforth) we gave him the subcutaneous fluid thingies. He didn’t squirm too bad. Overall, my outlook is a lot more positive this morning than it was yesterday, but that’s not hard to accomplish.

I love that little boy and, like Courtland, my heart is breaking. They say that he can go for months, even years if things go well (crossing every digit I’ve got). His appetite seems to be a bit better now that he’s not as dehydrated.

That little ball of black fluff has made an indelible way into our hearts and right now … well, I’m just hoping for the best.

A few of observations:
Everyone who lives down here is fat. Well, not everyone, but a much “larger” (heh) percentage of the population than in California. And when I say fat, I mean LARGE. I don’t know if my perceptions have changed since leaving here almost 6 years ago… but it seems to me is that everyone has just ballooned into gargantuan porportions.

The mall in the largest nearby town hasn’t really changed in 20 years. My mom used to work in a store there when I was little and I practically grew up in the mall. Sad, so sad.

Isn’t it handy that Apple so generously included a lap warmer inside my powerbook? Hot! Hot! Hot! Hot!

And a frustration:
How many episodes of Murder She Wrote can one person watch!??!?!?

My friend Darren sends out a quote every day. Today’s couldn’t have been any better for me.

For me it’s background noise, something to ignore while I concentrate on doing something else. It allows me to spend time around the people I love while also doing stuff. Multi-tasking. (This drives Courtland nuts and so I usually don’t do it at home.. he’s like, are you gonna watch this with me or not?).

So here I am, trying read an article on the history of modern paganism (on my laptop, leaching off the neighbor’s wireless, natch) while ER is on and all this drama and nonsense is issueing from my parents ginormous television set (takes up half the living room, seems like)….then… “it’s gonna fall….the bus is leaning on the cliff… it’s gonna fall…”

So now I’m trying to ignore the TV AND her, all at the same time. Can’t you see I’m tryin’ to read here? I want to say. But no, I stay quiet and just glare at her… this quells her narration for a moment, until the next dramatic music moment and pitch… ignoring… ignoring… ignoring…aaaarrgh!

Living away for so long has dulled my parental attention avoidance skills. God I miss San Francisco.
